Bull Rider by Suzanne Williams

All it takes is eight seconds....

Cam O'Mara, grandson and younger brother of bull- riding champions, is not interested in partaking in the family sport. Cam is a skateboarder, and perfecting his tricks — frontside flips, 360s — means everything until his older brother, Ben, comes home from Iraq, paralyzed from a brain injury.

What would make a skateboarder take a different kind of ride? And what would get him on a monstrosity of a bull named Ugly? If Cam can stay on for the requisite eight seconds, will the $15,000 prize bring hope and a future for his big brother?

My Thoughts

First of all let me start out by saying WOW! This book is not typically the genre that I prefer, but something told me that I should give it a try. I am so glad that I did!

To summarize it we have a younger brother who is extremely close with his older 19 year old brother. The older brother is a marine and goes off to war. Little does Cam know that his world is about to be turned upside. He has to battle with his inner demons and come to learn what it really means to lose it all and how he can help and truly fit in his family's living style.

This book is told through Cam's point of view and how a world is seen through a 14 year old's eyes. Cam tries to balances the ups and downs that life throws at him and in the end he comes to realizes what matters most in life-family.

I really enjoyed this story and I found it hard to put down when I started reading. I fell into Cam's world and it seemed like I wasn't even reading anymore, but that now I was living it right along side him. Williams is an extremely talented writer. She does a marvelous job with the words and characters, and the smoothness if the storyline.

The characters really warmed my heart. I was with them in times or joy and times of sadness. When they cried-I cried, when they laughed-I laughed. This book shows you what true families are like. Even thought they fuss and have troubles in the end everyone feels loved.

I really hope that you will give Bull Rider a try, and see how Cam is put up to the test. Does he win or lose it all?
